What’s New
Smart Reply in Chat was first announced in 2018. Smart Reply is a feature that allows you to save time by suggesting quick responses to your messages based on your past messaging habits.
These replies were first announced in only English but with the newest update you will now see options for Spanish, French, and Portuguese. Smart Reply will now automatically detect the language in text and offer responses accordingly.
Getting Started
- Admins: There is no admin control for this feature.
- End users: Smart Reply auto-detects languages and is on by default. Once you’ve selected a Smart Reply, you can send it immediately or edit your response starting with the Smart Reply text. You can update your Smart Reply preferences in Google Chat or your Gmail account. At the top right, click Settings > navigate to “Smart Reply.”
This feature should already be at your fingertips! It is available to all Google Workspace users, as well as legacy G Suite Basic and Business users.
Is this suggestions feature not for you? You can always turn off suggestions in Chat. This will turn off suggestions on a specific device but not on other devices.
- At the top left, tap Menu > Settings.
- Next to Smart Reply, turn off the setting.
